There I decided to focus my statistics and economics towards Risk Management for cattle feeders. In 1986 Garnac Grains who, owned Clayton Brokerage, decided to get out of the commodity brokerage business and I went with Blunt Ellis and Loewi that was owned by Kemper Securities. In 1990 I moved to Linnco Futures Group (LFG) and by April of 2000 was in a branch of R.J. O'Brien. In January of 2002 I decided to open my own IB office through RJO which is now CattleHedging.com, LLC.

I had been building Risk Management research and Hedge Strategies through all these years and built www.CattleHedging.com website in 1999 to give access to my feed yard and ranching customers. In 1983 I was asked to speak on "BASIS RISK" in Chicago at a Futures Symposium where a couple of Canadian cattle feeders heard me and invited me to Canada. I have enjoyed working with both Canadian cattle producers and packers ever since. In the early years I worked on both seasonal basis for Canadian fed and feeder cattle as well as developed a basis regression model that was used to offer basis contracts to Alberta feed yards, using the U.S. cattle futures market.

While feeding cattle in the 80s I built an Excel spreadsheet to reconcile my risk management with futures and options with my cattle on feed. We used this spreadsheet for some feed yards until 2007 when I started developing an online product called "Hedge Positions" to be used by both feed yards and myself to help Manage Risk!

Specialty/Focus - Managing Risk for Livestock Producers and Packers in the U.S. and Canada. - Not just as a broker but as a consultant to feed yards through Hedge Positions! - I enjoy golf and fishing and spend a great deal of time studying and teaching scripture.

Clayton decided to sell the brokerage business and we were acquired by Kemper Securities/Blunt Ellis & Loewi in Dec 1986. At that time I became the office branch administrator. In 1992 Kemper decide to get out of the commodities side of the business and we were acquired by Linnco Futures Group where we stayed until March 2000. In April 2000 we went to work for R J O’Brien and have been associated with them for the past 11 years. I share my 11 hour work days between Larry Hicks/Cattlehedging.com and another branch office of R.J.O’Brien. I specialize in collecting margin money, opening accounts, and branch administration. I also help take care of the 4 branch offices with their new accounts and margin calls.

Specialty/Focus Managing financial risk for beef and grain producers using futures and options strategies. My primary focus is the grain markets and write a morning grain commentary each day.

Soon an opportunity to join the Risk Management team at RJO Brien became available and Jason made a transition that eventually evolved into a risk management position for CattleHedging.com. Currently, Jason is the branch office manager for the Fort Collins office of Cattlehedging.com where he and his team focus on managing price risk, or more specifically managing margins, for cattle feeders and agriculture producers using primarily futures and options. Their goal is to deploy a customized set of solutions and strategies that align with each customer’s core values and risk preferences that will best help today’s agribusinesses grow. In addition to helping produces manage their margins, Jason and his team also help customers procure Wet Distillers Grains, Dry Distillers Grains, corn as well as facilitate basis contracting of feeder cattle. Jason and his wife Cheri live on a farm north of Fort Collins, CO where they raise their 4 kids: Kyli (8), Tyler (6), Mataya (2) and Clay (4 months)

She then transitioned to the Clayton Brockerage Company in St. Louis where she continued to work as a fundamental livestock analyst. Four years later, she moved to Denver Colorado and has lived there ever since. Elaine writes a weekly letter on cattle and grains and spends her free time hiking in Colorado's mountains.
